Hand printed Wood Slice Ornaments using Crochet Flowers

Here are some really cool Christmas ornaments that were made by Judith L. and her daughter from California.  They used crochet flowers to print these neat designs onto some 3 inch wood slices and then put some holes in them and strung some twine through to hang them up.  Really neat idea!  They look like snow flakes and the possibilities are endless with using other colors and even possibly layering one color over another.

You can find wood slices to use for ornaments in our Church House Woodworks Etsy Shop.

Try your hand at making some home-made DIY ornaments.  You can use paints, markers, glitter, sand art, or decorate them with pictures, beads, jewels, etc.

Tree Branch Vase with Glass Pedestal DIY

Here is one of our tree branch vases that got an upgrade from Kayla S.  You can see that a glass pedestal was attached to the bottom of the vase to give it some height and character along with some shine and sophistication. A wood shaped heart with their initials burned in to it and tied on with some twine gives it a great personalized touch.  The patriotic Red, White, and Blue flowers make the perfect touch to this military family's wedding.

You can find the tree branch vases at our Church House Woodworks Etsy Shop.  The pedestals can usually be found in a Walmart or craft store like Hobby Lobby in the glass and candle holder section.  You can use a taper candle holder to make the base and then glue it to the bottom of the tree branch vase.  Make sure it bonds securely, you don't want it to come toppling down at your event!  She used a heart shaped wood tag for hers or you can also use a wood slice with a hole in it like the ones here.  If you further want to preserve your vase you can use an aerosol can of clear coat and give it 2 or 3 quick coats of a matte or satin finish.

Rustic Wood Slice Mosaic Art Fireplace Mantel DIY

Here is a super awesome wood slice mosaic fireplace mantel surround that was made by Ava C. from Pennsylvania.  She used wood slices in the 1 to 3 inch diameter range from our eclectic mix along with some cedar slices.  You can see many of the pieces were painted in a wide array of colors that mix with the natural tones of the wood to give a kaleidoscopic effect of an outdoorsy rustic feel coupled with a unique modernness that is sure to be a conversation piece that will draw the utmost attention.

If you would like to take on a project like this or make an art piece or a wall hanging then you can find a selection of pieces in our Churh House Woodworks Etsy Shop.

First you need to decide on what you want to do.  If you do not have a structure to attach the pieces to then you can use a scrap of lumber to make a backing.  We have made some using 1 inch thick/12 inch wide pine, or you can use larger pieces made form OSB, MDF, or plywood.  Then select the adhesive you would like to use.  We use a lot of Elmers wood glue for our projects, but most any adhesive that bonds wood will do.  Hot glue is fine for a lot of projects, but for something around a fireplace remember that if it heats up it can loosen the glue so for that you might go with a glue with a stronger more permanent bond like Gorilla glue or even a tube of F-13 or F-26.

If you plan to paint any of your pieces it seems easier to paint them before bonding them to your project.  Give them a little time to dry so that you can push down on the surface with some pressure when you attach them without having the paint come off on your fingers.

Working with a vertical surface is much more challenging than working on a flat work piece.  On a flat piece you can lay out your pieces and glue them one at a time, while on a wall you will have to better form a plan.  Make sure to get a mixture of the diameter sizes as you place them.  If you are using colors then make sure and mix them up.  Take a step back every now and then as you go to make sure it looks good from a viewing distance and so you can see what it needs more of less of.  Keep in mind that some adhesives bond instantly and others will give you a few minutes to change your mind.  On a vertical wall the ones that are not an instant bond can begin to slide down so since there are advantages/disadvantages to both kinds consider your needs when buying your materials.

After you art pieces is completed we recommend sealing it off with a clear coat.  They make brush-on clear coats by Minwax and other brands that work well, but it is usually a lot quicker and easier to just get a couple aerosol cans and give them about 3 coats.  This will preserve your treasure for years to come.  Remember that a Matte will leave an end result that looks more natural.  A satin will bring out just a bit more of the wood and color, and a Gloss can change the appearance entirely by deepening all the colors and tones and putting a very noticeable shine to the work.  We usually stick with a Matte finish, but it's all in what you want.

DIY Shabby Chic Wood Vase Straw Holder, Wood Place Card Holders, Tree Slices For Rainbow Unicorn Party

Glitter Lambs is our other website in case if your wondering. That's why all the pictures have the Glitter Lambs© logo on it. So anyways, back to the DIY Shabby Chic stuff....

In the above picture is one of my husbands wooden vases he made. I wanted to give it a shabby chic look so I made my husband spray paint the wood in a blue Krylon color.

He gave it one coat and lightly misted the wooden vase to give it that shabby chic look. Just what I was going for!!! I love this color blue and it looked really good over the wood.

Here is what it looked like when it was finished. Looks good, huh?

Here is the spray painted card holder and wood slice. The wood slice has a hole drilled in the top of it. Sorry that the picture was not more clear.

Next we took a larger wood slice and spray painted this the same way.

We made sure to let the wood still peer through. After these dried I took them and used them in my Unicorn Party pictures.

Here is the shabby chic wooden vase and I added some colored straws down in it. I placed the Unicorn Punch card I made down into the wood place card holder. I used a unicorn rubber ducky to go with the theme and just sat all this on a wood slice. The rainbow colored ring you see is just a bracelet that was bought at the dollar store. You could easily make something similar by just taking a round circular bracelet and wrapping some colored yarn around it.

I made some blue punch and floated the unicorn rubber duckies in it and the mason jars were turned into drinking glasses. I just used some light pastel colored cupcake liners and turned them upside down over the mason jar and twisted the lid on. I then poked a hole through the top using a pen and then added the colored straw down in it. The cupcake liners didn't fit real well over the mason jar and I had to smooth them out the best I could before I twisted the lid on.

I used the wood slice with the drilled hole in it and hung it on the wooden vase. I used a black sharpie marker and wrote the words "UNICORN PUNCH" on it. I made the unicorn look like he was a horse and was pulling the straw filled wood vase just to be funny.

Here is the rubber ducky unicorn's floating in the punch. Nice day for a swim!

Here is a close up of the other kind of card holders that we offer. These are pine and are smaller but very cute! If you want to buy these in our shop here is the link.

A closer shot of the pine card holders. These little card holders make everything a lot easier and just really makes for a nice presentation. Can you see my tiny plastic hamburgers on the tall piece of wood. Are they not the cutest???!!! I thought so! I even added a few of them around the cheese bowl.

Here is the card holders with all three of them. I should have made my speedy gonzales smaller and moved him up so the card would have fit better. I was not really thinking about it when I printed these off. O well, they still look so CUTE!!! Always allow for some room on your card so that it will not cut off any of your pictures or words.

Here are the stumps that we offer that you can set stuff on. I added the bowls of food that I had on them. Depending on the theme that you have going on you can fill small bowls of sprinkles, candy, chocolate bars, etc and just sit them right on top of the small stump. These are perfect for your food buffets. I love them!!! If your doing a rustic wedding you can try doing smores and just fill the bowls with marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate all separated into big bowls.
You could also try sitting mason jars on top of the tree stumps and filling them with something that goes with you event.

12 Rustic Tree Branch Wooden Food Label Card Holders For Candy Buffet Or Birthday Party: Pepe Le Pew, Bubblegum, Pixie Stixs, Cotton Candy, Wax Bottle Drinks, Wafers

12 rustic place card holders, tree card holders, place holders, rustic wedding decor, country wedding, tree stump, candy buffet card holders

I took some pictures of our tree branch wood place card holders and use Pepe Le Pew as the star. I just made up some cute little cards and printed them out. I should have made my skunk smaller and allowed room for the card to sit down in it. I forgot to pay attention to that when I was making and printing them out. I added pixie stixs to one of our wood vases and then sat that on top of a wood slice.

We do have a listing available in our Etsy shop for you to buy 12 rustic place card holders made from tree limbs.  If you need more or less then just message us and tell how many you need.

***********Some may be rough bark and others may be smooth bark based on what we have on hand at the time of your order. Tree types will vary between orders.******************************

The approximate diameters of the holders will range from 1.75" - 2.25" and are approx 1.5" tall. The depth of the groove is approx 1/2" deep, just allow enough room for the card to set in without covering any of your design or writing.
Here is the Cotton Candy section. You can see that I piled up some fake plastic donuts on top of a standing tree branch in the back.

I figured out that my cotton candy didn't like the sun very well. This stuff was shrinking up to nothing by the time I got done taking pictures.

Here is some pixie stixs that I added to one of our desk organizers. I thought it would work perfect for this because of all of the little holes that it has. I used a tall glass vase and added some fake donuts to that and filled it to the top. And I added a small stack of tiny wood slices next to it that we also sell in our store.

I don't know about you but I always loved those little wax bottle drinks when I was a kid. I added some of those to a glass mason jar.

These place card holders are different than the ones above and are also for sale in our store. You can get 24 of them at this listing here. BUY NOW. If you need more or less just message us in our etsy shop and we will see what we can do for you. We also sell the the wood that the bubblegum jar and bowl of wafers is sitting on.
